500km: Sherbrooke Lake

Sherbrooke Lake

August 24th 2024

Distance 9.3km round trip Elevation: 373m

This easy hike is nestled between the border of Banff National Park and Yoho National Park. I have always seen signs for the hike and always wanted to try it. Due to unfortunate circumstances our original hike in Yoho got canceled. This was a nearby option. The lake and its valley are stunning and a high reward for what you hike.

The Trailhead

Starting from Calgary follow the Highway 1 past Banff and Lake Louise. As you enter the Yoho National park you will see an old hotel on the right, the parking lot is immediately after on the right. There is a small sign pointing it out. The parking lot is small and crowded. After a wild life fence there is a small outhouse.

Walking along the lakeshore trail.

The Hike

From the parking lot head up and through the wild life fence. You then will head up gentle switch backs through the forest. The path is wide and well made but there are a lot of slippery roots to watch for. You then make it to a flat forest path. You will see a turn for the lookout, continue straight. You then make it to the lake. You are able to walk around the lake and there are various look outs to see the lake. The path can be technical at times with roots.

Side Notes

  • This hike is in a National Park, you need a pass, buy at the gate or visitor center.
  • The parking lot is small, if full you could park near the hotel and walk.
  • This is an official trail with signs.
  • The Paget Lookout links to this trail, I would like to go back and do this hike
  • Field and Lake Louise are close for snacks.
