February 8th 2024

Distance: 6.6km Elevation: 221m

Fullerton Loop is a classic hike is a 50 minute drive from Calgary and can be done in any season. Great for after work, during winter or with kids. This hike is mainly through the trees but has some views of the rolling hills. The leaves in the fall would be beautiful.

View from the viewpoint.

The Trailhead

From Calgary go to Bragg Creek. Either from Highway 1, Highway 8 or Highway 22X. Make your way to Highway 66. Turn right at the parking lot labeled Fullerton. There are toilets and garbage cans at the trailhead.

The Hike

From the parking lot the hike takes you on a wide trail through the flat forest. After crossing a cattle gate you can turn left or right at the sign as it is a loop. We turned left. You then climb a somewhat steep slope. The path is still wide and can be slippery or muddy. You then come to a bench with a lookout over the foothills. Back in the forest you get one more viewpoint after, but it is mainly forest after. You then go down a steady slope, until the bottom until you eventually meet back at the sign.

Just before heading down on the loop.

Side Notes

  • Fullerton is in Kananaskis so you need a Kananaskis pass, you can buy this online and is good for 2 license plates.
  • Fullerton is a good winter hike, bring microspikes.
  • There is a good amount of leave color on this trail, it would be a good fall hike.
  • Due to length and elevation this may be a kid friendly hike.
