February 3
Distance: 5km Elevation: 262m
My goal this year was to hike 500km. I achieved this goal September 17th. These are the hikes that helped get me there.
Trailhead
From Calgary drive Highway 1 to Banff. Turn on either exit for Banff. I perfer the first. Drive down main street turning left on wolf street, then left on St.Julien Rd. There are two trailheads upper and lower. For the upper lot turn left on Tunnel Mountain Drive.
The hike
the trail is well marked and has easy switchbacks. It is steep and even though its short it can be a workout. We did this trail in the snow with no spikes and did not have much trouble. At the top you are rewarded of views of Banff and surrounding area.
Side notes
- The hike is in the town of Banff, but there are still BEARS, bring bear spray.
- You can walk from town to the trail head
- This is a good winter hike with microspikes.
